Merzmensch - Alice in Wonderland

In Alice in Wonderland, Merzmensch transforms the visual language of classical cinema and surreal memory into a poetic, AI-generated vision. A young girl, dressed in a modest 1950s-style dress, stands in an industrial corner—her posture tense, her expression caught between innocence and fear. Behind her rises a massive metal structure resembling a mechanical eye or portal, marked by time and corrosion.

The title evokes Lewis Carroll's timeless fairy tale, but here the rabbit hole is darker, heavier, more claustrophobic. This isn't a whimsical wonderland, but a space between dream and dystopia. Merzmensch's NeoreAIlism series reinterprets neorealist photography with synthetic precision—it mimics analog grain, shadow play, and cinematic staging, but is generated entirely by AI. The result is a haunting authenticity that blurs the line between fact and fiction, memory and simulation.

"Alice" becomes a figure of the collective imagination: a child of Cold War fears, of postwar lost innocence, of timeless curiosity confronted with the unfathomable.

A portrait of imagined memory – uncannily real and disturbingly current.
